Whichcote House

Project:          Student Accommodation
Location:       Cambridge
Comprising:  48 student rooms, Common Rooms & Ancillary Facilities

DMA Architects obtained planning consent for King’s College, Cambridge and Howard Group for a new student accommodation to replace a modernistic but undistinguished outdated building in the centre of Cambridge.  The replacement building will meet modern day student living standards and be more energy efficient. 48 student rooms, each with en-suite facilities, are arranged in clusters sharing a social space. The accommodation wraps around a central south facing courtyard garden which provides a sunny aspect to most student rooms.  The facades are modelled to give the otherwise flat exterior a sculptural quality with solids and voids emphasised by recessing and projecting different features which also helps to express their differing purpose or importance.
